Monday, May 13, 2002

Early detection of deadly diseases will be the focus of a special presentation at the NSX: Investing In Innovation expo in Newcastle this month. Managing Director of Polartechnics, Victor Skladnev, will speak about the vital role of medical research and the development of innovative medical devices in the battle to win the war against deadly diseases such as melanoma. NSX General Manager, Scott Evans, said that the field of medical research and development was one of Australia’s fastest growing businesses – one that was attracting a great deal of investment and interest. Polartechnics has been spearheading the development of medical devices for many years and recently captured great public and media attention for the invention of a scanner for melanoma. Mr Skladnev has been invited by the Stock Exchange of Newcastle (NSX) to be the special guest speaker at the NSX: Investing In Innovation luncheon. The luncheon is part of a full day program to be held at Newcastle City Hall on Friday 24 May 2002. NSX: Investing In Innovation is a unique conference and exhibition bringing together investors and innovators. Minister for Science, Peter McGauran launched Polartechnics’ newest product, SolarScan®, on the 7 May 2002 at Bondi Beach. Mr Evans said that medical research and in particular the field of medical diagnostic devices required capital to grow. ‘The sector exports over $500 million a year in equipment internationally. The NSX can serve as a market to facilitate the growth of the burgeoning medical device companies in Australia,’ Mr Evans said. ‘NSX: Investing In Innovation is showcasing more than 30 companies representing a diverse range of international and national companies in fields including manufacturing, technology, medical research, education, government, investment and finance,’ he said. Soul Pattinson Telecommunications (SPT), Newcastle’s only ASX listed Company and a leader in innovative telecommunications in the Hunter, is proudly sponsoring NSX: Investing In Innovation 2002.
